Dimensions: 5.5 x 6 x 4.5 Media: cast iron sculpture Artist Statement : Eyes, windows of the soul, are closed, and the hand prevents words from escaping. Thoughts and emotions contained within, silenced. My work in sculpture focuses on representations of concepts and qualities of humanness—the characterization of various universal emotions, sensations, thought processes, the embodiment of self-identity and manifestations of spirituality. With a background as a professional dancer, choreographer and competitive athlete, I employ the language of the human body as a means of creative expression. In sculpture I often use aspects and parts of the human anatomy to convey ideas in physical form. Working primarily in metal renders weight and material presence that I find particularly engaging. Seeing my work I wish viewers to find resonance and relevance of “being human” as I explore and express in physical form various facets, abstractions and iterations centering around tmind-body connection and the human experience.

Dimensions: 5 x 7 x 1.5 Media: Collage made from hand colored papers. Artist Statement : I’m drawn to edges where land and water meet. I like to create small collages as I work out compositions for larger paintings, since this is a way to simplify the details.

Dimensions: 7 x 5 x 1 Media: colored pencil Artist Statement : "Thirsty?" by Stacey Chen is a surreal depiction of desire and desperation. The artwork portrays a parched landscape where a woman, sprawled on the cracked ground, reaches out to a vending machine that prominently features a towering Coca-Cola bottle. The vending machine, labeled "Thirsty" on its digital display, stands as an unattainable symbol of relief, heightening the woman's struggle. The juxtaposition of the vast, dry expanse with the glossy allure of the beverage encapsulates themes of consumerism and longing. Chen's use of vivid colors and distorted perspectives adds a whimsical yet poignant touch to this striking narrative.
Sold Dimensions: 5 x 7 x 1 Media: colored pencil Artist Statement : "Way to Work" by Stacey Chen merges the mundane with the festive in a whimsical interpretation of a daily commute. Set in Taipei Main Station, the scene is transformed into a vibrant festival of traditional Taiwanese cultural elements. The station's escalators are flanked by an ornate dragon dance costume, drumming lion heads, and vibrant lanterns, all vividly detailed. Masked performers and firecrackers animate the space, turning the typical underground commute into a surreal parade. Chen's use of color and meticulous detail breathes life into the artwork, celebrating cultural heritage while exploring the interplay between routine and celebration.
Dimensions: 11 x 11 x 1 Media: Oil paint on linen panel mounted in float frame Artist Statement : I create imagery that responds to our natural world as it stands today. In this piece I seek to convey the magic and light within an imaginary forest. Found images are conveyed through marks and layered stains of color. I am also responding to the color, weave and texture of the linen surface below, which becomes apart of the environment.
Dimensions: 11 x 11 x 1 Media: Oil on linen panel mounted in float frame Artist Statement : In this work I reference both nature and a more urban environment as expressed through the geometric elements that in turn create a more claustrophobic space.
Like the miracle of a dandelion that pokes out from a crack in a city sidewalk, this work expresses a range of imaginary 'flowers' on display. In this work, I am also responding to
the color, weave and texture of the linen surface.
Juror's Choice Sold Dimensions: 8 x 10 x 2 Media: Linoleum Print on Masa Paper Artist Statement : Breakfast Love is a reductive tri-color print exploring the expression of love between people through acts of service and activities often overlooked. To one person, eggs may show the care another person possesses while other views it as a mere dish. Breakfast Love is designed to inspire people to reflect on seemingly mundane activities and see the value they have in our lives.
Dimensions: 9 x 11 x 1 Media: Epson Archival Print framed with UV-protection Conservation Glass Artist Statement : It was late in November, but the trees in the Historic District of Maryland's capital were, to my surprise and delight, still ablaze in golds and pastel greens, and I of course did lots of shooting in color to celebrate that perfect photo-enticing autumn afternoon.
But in this little fish-eye frolic, I decided to let their forms and textures, as well as the fence and the Maryland State Office Building invoke a playful fantasy.
Dimensions: 11 x 9 x 1.5 Media: Mixed Media: Ink and Acrylic markers Artist Statement : On watercolor paper, dripped acrylic inks. Rotated the paper and sprayed the inks with water to add movement. The colors I used were "bell bronze," "antelope brown," and "silver moss." (I like sharing the intriguing names for these colors.) I only added fun details using the ink as background. Added figures with a uni posca marker and a white gel pen. Enjoy.
Dimensions: 9 x 11 x 1.5 Media: Mixed Media: Color pencil and gel pen Artist Statement : Working in a series can provide (for me) added focus of attention along with a variety of possibilities. I use Legion Stonehenge aqua black paper because it has better lightfast qualities.
Using a limited palette, I made large forms and then went back to add fun details. The golfer was not planned but "appeared" from an ambiguous form. There was no strategy. I was trying to depict fun.
Sold Dimensions: 8 x 8 x 1 Media: oil on panel Artist Statement : A slice of mincemeat pie is a favorite of my husband. Despite its name, no meat is included. Mincemeat recipes have a variety of fruits such as raisins apples and currants and they go back hundreds of years as a traditional Christmas time dessert. It was painted alla prima because I couldn't wait to dig in.
