This piece is from a series called “Love Letters”. They are self-portraits, painted from photos that I carefully took of myself to share with a person I was intimately involved with. After the relationship ended I decided to recreate some of these images as paintings and in doing so discovered an unexpected process of healing and a sense of reappropriation and reaffirmation - the value of the gift of myself was never diminished but on the contrary it only increases.
